TILX 58001 Trinity 4-bay plastics hopper 5851cf (Phase 1)

Prototype Description:

This is the one-of-a-kind Trinity Industries Poly Flo demonstrator car from 1988 that started the plastics hopper

production for Trinity in the late 1980s. The car is very unique as it has two types of plastic pellets gates to

showcase to railroads and lessors – YSD Double Groove and Ellcon National Norson pellet gates. The only known

photograph is in the book The Legend of Trinity Industries, Inc by Jeffrey L Rodengen (2000).

TrinityRail offers the 5,851 cubic foot pneumatic discharge covered hopper

car optimized to transport petrochemical products. Plastic pellet railcars

are designed to transport, load and unload plastic pellets under precise

specifications to preserve the purity of the load.

The phase 2 cars have full end panels with small 6-sided cutouts .

The cars have a short side sill with a separate  jack pad. There

are 13 running board supports and 11 side panels.
