Prototype Description:

National Steel Car’s 2,500-cubic-foot gondola car for aggregate service

has an inside length of 37-feet, 1 3/8-inches with 9-foot, 2-inch sides

equipped for a gross rail load of 286,000 pounds, a light weight of 50,500

pounds, and a capacity of 235,500 pounds. The car has a standard draft

arrangement and can be equipped with drainage slots or clean out doors,

four per car, two per end. The heavy duty design with pinned corner

connections and welded body construction provides excellent durability

and fatigue life while exceeding all AAR requirements.
