LTCX 19,120 Gallon Cryogenic Tank Car Railworks
Prototype Description:
RRMods proudly represents, to as accurate detail as possible, the Chart Industries cryogenic tank car with the
frame built by TrinityRail and tanks by Chart Industries. The model SR-603 tank car is a DOT-113A120W tank car
optimized to carry maximum payloads of argon. It complies with all Association of American Railroads (AAR) and
US Department of Transportation (US DOT) regulations. The model SR-603 is a stub sill tank car ? the sills are
integral to the outer tank, and the outer tank carries significant rail loads along the length of the car, and
supports the weight of the product and the inner tank.
The tank is double walled like a vacuum flask with multi-layer insulation, with the valves and fittings enclosed
in a cabinet at the lower side or end of the car. The inner tank is made of durable T-304 stainless steel, while
the outer tank is made of fine grain carbon steel. The pressure within the tank is 25 psi (170 kPa) or lower
with a temperature below 20.27 K (?423.17 ?F or ?252.87 ?C) and a boil-off rate of 0.3% to 0.6% per day. The
inner tank is typically rated at 60 psig for improved strength and hold time with no payload loss.
