In 1970 WP had two new paint schemes in the "Perlman Green" named after their new chairman Alfred Perlman. These schemes were in use from 1970 to 1978.
In 1976 WP unveiled two special paint units to celebrate the countries Bicentennial.
In 1979 the final scheme appeared and was referred to as the "New Image Paint". Most, but not all units, used a new shade of green which was more grayish in color.
In 1982 the WP started preparing for the UP merger which was in early 1983. They began setting up their GP40's to match UP standards. The result was a test paint job in UP colors and WP lettering one of a kind. The UP shields where painted without the UP lettering.
Early 1990's saw the end of the WP GP40's. Seen below is a slightly faded yellow which is about to be retired and sold off, ending a legacy.
This ends my tribute to the once mighty Western Pacific.
